Users have reported quite a few problems with their Insignia TVs, the most common being their Insignia TV not connecting to WiFi and the no sound issue which I already addressed in a different post. This can be a result of various factors that may cause your Insignia TV to fail to detect the WiFi or connect to it. The most common culprit can be outdated TV software.

However, there may also be some other reasons. If you are asking yourself, “Why won’t my Insignia TV connect to WiFi?” read on to learn about the common causes behind this problem and how you can fix it.

Why Won’t My Insignia TV Connect to WiFi?

Why Won’t My Insignia TV Connect to WiFi?

The most common reasons for Insignia TV not connecting to WiFi include:

1. Outdated Firmware of Software

The firmware and software for Insignia TVs are regularly updated to ensure that they are free from bugs. If you are unable to connect your TV to the WiFi, it could be due to outdated firmware and software on the tv. And since you are unable to connect it to WiFi, your TV will not be able to install any of the newly released updates.

2. Incorrect DNS Server Settings

The Domain Name System (DNS) settings need to be configured accurately in order to support the internet connection. Since most digital services that facilitate internet connections have DNS settings, incorrect configuration of these settings causes your TV to not connect to the WiFi.

3. Bugs

If your Insignia TV is detecting the WiFi but is unable to connect to it, the culprit could be a pesky bug in the software of your TV. This usually happens when you turn your TV off using the remote for a long period of time, which corrupts the network and prevents it from connecting to the wireless network. This can also happen if you enter the wrong WiFi password.

4. Issues with the WiFi Router or Modem

Any issues with your modem or router will make it impossible for you to connect your TV to the WiFi. Be it outdated firmware, low-quality signals, or frequency interference caused by other routers; these issues will directly affect your wireless connections.

5. You Are Out of Range

If you are wondering, “Why does my Roku TV keep disconnecting from the internet,” it may be because the distance between your TV and the WiFi router is too much. A distance of more than 25 feet between the two devices, as well as obstructions like walls and objects can cause your TV to disconnect from the internet.

6. Overheating

If your TV is placed in a spot where airflow is really limited, and there are objects blocking the airflow to your TV, your device may overheat and cause disruptions in the internet connection. Many Insignia TV owners have reported that once the motherboard of their TV overheats, their TV starts disconnecting from the internet.

Now that you are aware of the most common factors behind Insignia TV WiFi not working, we have listed a few fixes below that you can try.

1. Refresh the Network

One of the easiest fixes for Insignia Fire TV not connecting to WiFi is to simply refresh your network connection. Although this may sound simple, many users may not find the right settings in the menu.

To reset your network using Insignia TV:

  • Go to Menu settings on the TV.
  • Open General Settings.
  • Select Network and then click on Network Status.
  • Find and select Network Reset.
  • Disable all the firewalls and update latest firmware.
  • Now try reconnecting your television to the WiFi.

If you are unable to connect your TV to the wireless network, you will need to try out the other fixes mentioned in this article.

2. Keep Your TV in a Cool Spot

Another reason your TV is not connecting to WiFi could be overheating. You can try placing a fan nearby to prevent it from overheating. When the motherboard of the Insignia TVs starts overheating, it causes connection problems.

To prevent this from happening, you can keep your TV in an airy room and place a fan nearby. Make sure the space around the TV is not too cluttered so that the air can flow easily.

3. Identify the Signal Strength of Your TV

If all your other networks are working perfectly with your TV and yet you are facing the problem of your Insignia Fire TV not connecting to WiFi, you should check the signal strength of your router.

To do so:

  • Go to your TV Settings using the remote.
  • Navigate to General Settings.
  • Select Network and then go to Open Network Settings.
  • Select Wireless and then check the WiFi bars that represent the strength of the WiFi signal.

If the WiFi bars are full, it means that the connection strength is perfect. If the bars are less than three, you should consider moving closer to your WiFi router. Or, install a WiFi extender to get better signal strength for your Insignia TV. You can also consider connecting your TV directly to the WiFi router with an Ethernet cable. This would massively improve the WiFi signal strength.

4. Restart Your Insignia TV

If you are unable to connect your Insignia TV to the WiFi, try restarting your TV. Turn your TV off for 5 seconds and then turn it back on. This will quickly solve your problem as the WiFi connection problem may be because of keeping your TV on for a very long time.

To restart your Insignia TV:

  • Press the power button to switch it off.
  • Wait for 5 seconds.
  • Press the power button again to switch on your TV.

This will set any issues straight.

5. Factory Reset an Insignia TV

If restarting your Insignia TV does not fix the issue, you may need to factory reset your TV. Electronic devices tend to act funny after some time, even if you clean and maintain them properly.

If you are unable to connect your Insignia TV to the WiFi even after restarting it, you may need to factory reset your TV. However, do note that doing so would remove all the downloaded apps and preferences.

To factory reset an Insignia TV:

  • Unplug it from the power socket.
  • Press and hold the TV’s dedicated power button. Keep holding it and ask someone to plug the TV back into the power socket. Make sure you are holding the power button during this time.
  • Once the TV reboots, navigate to Wipe Data/Factory Reset and select this option.
  • Now hold down the power button until the onscreen bar is green.
  • Once the reset is finished, go to the Reboot System and select this option.
  • Once again, hold the power button down until the onscreen bar is green. Your Insignia TV will reboot once again. Once done, the factory reset will be completed, and your TV will turn on.

Once you have successfully factory reset your TV, make sure to connect it to the WiFi. You can check if it is working by opening YouTube or downloading an app. If you are unable to do so, it means that the problem still persists, and you will have to try some other fix.

6. Update Your TV’s Software

Most smart TVs today have firmware updates that are released to improve the performance of your TV. These updates are installed automatically if your TV is connected to a wireless connection. However, if you are unable to connect your TV to the internet, you will need to download and install these updates manually.

This can be done by downloading the firmware update on a USB drive. To do so:

  • Open the download page, locate your TV’s model, and then download the update to your PC.
  • Unzip the downloaded file into a USB drive. Make sure your TV is turned off.
  • Now connect the USB drive to the USB slot on your TV.
  • Turn your TV on and tap on the Home Button.
  • Go to Settings > Support > Software Update > Update
  • Select YES and then tap on USB. You will see an option to select USB. Your Insignia TV will now scan for any available software updates on your USB drive and install and restart your TV once the update has been installed.

7. Contact Customer Support

If you have tried all the fixes mentioned above and you are still unable to connect your Insignia TV to the WiFi, it’s time to leave it to the pros. Contact Insignia’s customer support and share your concerns with them. They will be able to better assist you with whether you should repair or replace your TV.
