Unable to Connect to Samsung Server?

Sometimes, all you want to do is sit back and enjoy a movie or a TV show, but when you are unable to connect to Samsung server, it is enough to kill your mood. I’ve faced this situation multiple times, and I’ve even talked about whether a smart TV will work without an internet connection. You know, since you will want to watch something while you rest and rewind.

However, if you’re hell-bent on watching some Netflix on your Samsung TV and are facing this issue, I have some good news for you. These problems are extremely common, and if you follow a series of simple steps, you won’t have to encounter the “unable to connect to Samsung server 189” error again.

There are a few reasons why you keep running into the “unable to connect to Samsung server” error. Sometimes, there is a problem with the SmartHub password; sometimes, it’s the wrong DNS. What’s more, your firmware might be in dire need of an upgrade. Corrupted data can also create connectivity problems, and the internet speed is another affecting factor. Finally, it could just be that the server is just offline.

So, the next time you come across the dreaded “the Samsung server not responding” or “Samsung TV won’t connect to server” error messages, don’t worry. There are a few things you can do, which I will get into here. First of all, check if the server is offline. If everything is fine, you can try closing one of the running applications, and restarting the system again. If that too doesn’t help, you can try updating the security software or contacting Samsung for more help.

Samsung TV Can’t Connect to Server: Some Common Errors

SmartHub Password Problems

SmartHub Password Problems

“James, my Samsung TV says ‘unable to connect to Samsung server.’” I hear you. A lot of these problems can be traced back to a SmartHub password. If you are having issues connecting to the server, try changing your password. Nine times out of ten, this is the solution. Make sure the password is simple, and easy to remember.

Incorrect DNS

Sometimes you receive the “Samsung TV not connecting to server” error message due to an incorrect DNS. It is annoying but these modern TVs are equipped with various DNS settings. To make sure you have the right DNS settings, use a website like WhatIsMyIP to find out what your DNS settings are and then change them if needed on your Samsung TV.

Firmware Needs an Update

In my experience, outdated firmware is one of the main reasons for your TV being unable to connect to Samsung server. Outdated firmware can create compatibility issues for a smart TV, especially when it comes to new streaming media protocols.

Corrupted Data

Bugs in your SmartHub can result in internal data corruption. If you are using a SmartHub, make sure it is updated to the latest update to ensure that it’s free of bugs. Sometimes, you experience a loss of the SmartHub data. The information should be backed up and restored.

Slow Internet Connection

A slow or unstable internet connection is also a problem and might be why you’re receiving the “Samsung server not responding” error message. The best thing you can do is switch to a faster or a more stable internet connection and see if that works for you.

Some Quick Fixes

When you receive the “unable to connect to the Samsung server 189” error message on your Samsung smart TV, there’s no need to panic. Instead, you can follow the steps mentioned here to troubleshoot the problem.

Check Your Internet Connection

As we have discussed above, one of the common reasons your Samsung TV is unable to connect to the internet is a weak Wi-Fi signal. It can also happen due to a faulty router. There are two options here. You can either switch to a different Wi-Fi network, or you can use an ethernet wired network.

Sometimes, these issues arise only when you try to connect to your Smart TV. If you suspect something similar, try using a different device like a phone or a laptop. If those devices connect to the internet, then there aren’t any issues with the Wi-Fi signals or the internet router. Here, it’s time to check the smart TV.

Check Your Internet Connection

Try a Soft Reset

To be honest, there isn’t too much difference between a soft and a hard reset. I always do it every time my Samsung TV has issues. The great thing is, it doesn’t need any unplugging. Also, when soft resetting your system, you don’t have to worry about losing your valuable data.

Here are a few simple steps I follow every time I soft reset my Samsung TV, and I advise you to do the same.

  • On your Samsung television remote, press the power button and hold it for a bit.
  • The moment your TV reboots, release the power button.
  • Once your TV resets, check to see if everything is back to normal.

Sign Out from SmartHub and Sign In Again

If you are having difficulty with Samsung SmartHub, and getting the message “unable to connect to samsung server, please try again later 116,” you can sign out of your account and sign in again. By doing so, you will restart the syncing process between the SmartHub and the TV, thus resolving the issues you are facing.

In some cases, even when you are logged in, two different apps fail to sync with one another. Sometimes, your account syncs with multiple TV applications or SmartHubs simultaneously. By signing out and signing in once again, you will tell your platform which account to sync with.

Here’s what you need to do.

  • Access the settings section in the menu, and then move to the “general” tab.
  • Once you are in, you will select the Samsung account, and then move to “my account.”
  • Then, press the select button on your remote, which will highlight your account.
  • You can then sign out.
  • After the SmartHub has been reset, you can re-sign into your account. First off all, you will have to highlight the account and then accept all the terms and conditions provided to you.

After you have followed these steps, you have to wait for a few minutes. During this time, the TV will sync with your Samsung account. With that out of the way, you can move to the section that was causing you trouble. Check to see whether the issue has been resolved.

Change Your DNS Server

If all of these quick fixes don’t work, I try changing the DNS server number. While this is a bit complicated, it has proven to work for me in the past. To check the network you are on, press the menu button on the remote. Then, check whether your Samsung smart TV is offline or connected to a wireless network.

Even if you are connected to a wireless network, there are times when you cannot connect to the internet. This happens primarily due to network issues. You will see a pop-up that will tell you that you are connected to a wireless network, but not to the internet.

To troubleshoot this problem, you will have to change the DNS settings. On the bottom of this pop-up you will see “IP” settings. Click on that link, and then scroll down. You will come across the DNS server option. Your DNS should be set to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4. If it is not, then you must change it manually.

Reset the Modem/Router

Reset the Modem/Router

The slightest problems with the modem/router can affect your connectivity. All you need to do is to disconnect the router for a couple of minutes, and then reconnect it. If you don’t see any picture on the TV screen, it is a sign that the internet connection is down. If such is the case, you can try an internet connection test. You can also try moving the router closer to your TV.

Sometimes, when you are struggling with connectivity issues, you must try to reset the router. You can even find yourself doing the same thing every few weeks. One of the reasons this happens is due to the traffic in your house. Sometimes, the availability of too many devices can compromise your internet connection.

In some cases, a hard reset is the answer to your problems. It can help troubleshoot the minor glitches that get in the way of your router connecting to the internet. Usually, there is a button on the router that is used to do a hard reset. However, if you aren’t sure, you can revisit the manual that came with the modem.

Update Your TV’s Firmware

If the issue persists, you can check for firmware updates by following these steps.

  • First, go to settings. Then move to support, followed by software update, and then enable auto-update.
  • Then, go to settings, followed by “system.” Next up, go to “About Device” and click on “update now.”
  • By doing so, you will allow your TV to look for updates and install those that are available.

During the update process, the TV may just reboot. After this happens, check to see whether you’re still getting that error. If, after a reboot, you still see the “the samsung server is not responding” error or “unable to connect to samsung server” error, it’s time to move to the next solution.

Update Your TV’s Firmware

Try Resetting the Samsung SmartHub

So, what is SmartHub anyway? Well, the SmartHub is a customizable application store for your Samsung smart TV. Its job is to allow you to access applications and entertainment on your Samsung television. It enables you to browse and download more applications, while automatically updating the SmartHub.

So, the next time you are faced with the “unable to connect to samsung server please try again later 116” error, you can opt for a factory reset. I know, it is the last resort for you, but you also don’t have any other option left. You can use the SmartHub to do the factory reset for you. This will delete your saved settings, as well as personal preferences.

Here is what you need to do.

  • On the remote, press “settings.”
  • Then select “support” followed by “diagnosis.”
  • Then, click “Reset SmartHub.”
  • Here, you will have to enter the four-digit pin of your TV. Usually, this four-digit pin is 0000, unless you’ve changed it to something else.
