Your VIZIO TV Won't Turn On? Try Out These 6 Quick Fixes

Hello Friends! I hope you all are doing well. Today, I’m back with another topic related to our favorite VIZIO TVs. And the topic is VIZIO TV won’t turn on! I strongly recommend reading this article until the end to discover different ways to fix it.

Before we move to our central idea of the article, you can check How to Clear Cache on VIZIO TV, if you are facing insufficient storage problems on your device.

Remember I told you guys earlier in one of my article that my parents are VIZIO TV users? Well, last month, I was with my parents and one day, after having lunch, I sat down on the sofa to turn on the VIZIO TV but saw that it was not turning on.

As is a habit of my mom, she panicked the most and asked me – “Shall my VIZIO TV won’t turn on?

Being a tech handyman, I knew the fix would be really simple. I researched a little bit about these and came up with 6 different fixes to the problem depending on what is causing the problem in the first place.

So without further ado, let’s get right into it.

VIZIO TV Won’t Turn On? Here are 6 Quick Fixes to Apply!

1. Check the Remote Control

Check the Remote Control

Though it might look stupid to list this as the first fix to the problem, but you won’t believe that people blame their TVs for run down of batteries in their remote. And hence search for terms like “VIZIO TV will not turn on with remote” on Google. And we know that changing the batteries is not a big deal.

You need to remove the old batteries and replace them with new ones. Insert new batteries into your remote and try to turn on your TV. If your VIZIO TV still doesn’t turn on, try turning it on via the power button, located either on the bottom right or left side of your device.

If your VIZIO turns back on, the problem was with your remote. However if your VIZIO TV will not turn on with remote, then you need to buy a new one.

2. Check the Power Source

Check the Power Source

One of the primary reasons a VIZIO TV doesn’t turn on is an issue with the power source. My VIZIO TV will not turn on certainly if there’s something wrong with the power source, through which the TV is connected.

  • Make sure that your VIZIO TV remote is running smoothly, first. Then press the Menu Button either on your remote or VIZIO smart TV to check if the power source is working or not.
  • If the menu shows up in your TV screen, then the power source is completely fine, but if it doesn’t appear on the TV screen, then you need to re-check your power plugs and connection.
  • Make sure that everything is properly plugged in. If your TV was plugged in, try unplugging and replugging it to see if your TV turns on.

3. Power Cycling

Power Cycling

Power Cycling is one of the effective ways of turning back your VIZIO Smart TV on. Not only can you turn your device back on, but power cycling can also help resolve other issues, like display problems, device screen flickering constantly, etc.

Before I list down the steps to perform power cycle, let me take a moment here to explain what it is.

What is Power Cycling?

Power cycling is a method of removing residual power. Have you ever noticed that when you switch off the TV, the power light doesn’t shut off immediately? It is due to residual power in the circuits. And this residual power sometimes behaves in unexpected manner, causing all the problems. Now let’s see how to do it.

Here’s How to Perform a  Power Cycle on your VIZIO TV:

  • Step I: First, disconnect the TV’s power cord by unplugging it from the power outlets.
  • Step II: Next, press and hold your VIZIO TV’s Power button for a minimum of 10 seconds.
  • Step III: Then release your hand from the Power button and power on your VIZIO Smart TV.

Once it’s done, your TV will power on smoothly. You can also use this same process if your VIZIO Smart TV refuses to turn off.

Remember that after unplugging your TV’s power cord, keep it unplugged for at least 30 to 60 seconds, and then plug it back again.

4. Switch the Outlet

Switch the Outlet

Another common reason why your VIZIO TV will not power on is a power outlet issue. Here’s how to fix it:

  • Step I: First, unplug your VIZIO TV’s power cord from the power outlet.
  • Step II: Try plugging in other devices to check whether the power outlet is malfunctioning or not.
  • Step III: If it does, then your TV has an internal problem. And if not, then switch to any other power outlet to run your VIZIO Smart TV smoothly.

Note: Make sure your power outlet is working properly, and if it doesn’t, consider calling a technician to fix it.  If it is not working properly, you may face a common “VIZIO TV has power but will not turn on” problem.

5. Perform a Factory Reset

Perform a Factory Reset

Factory reset is another possible solution to the problem. One of the major ways of resetting your VIZIO TV, is doing a factory reset, which you can check in my How to Reset VIZIO TV article.

Check out its steps, mentioned below.

  • Step I: First, navigate to the Power and Volume buttons on your VIZIO TV.
  • Step II: Next, press and hold down any of your Volume buttons simultaneously with the Power button.
  • Step III: Press and hold them down for a few seconds, and your device will prompt you to press and hold the Input button.
  • Step IV: Press and hold down the Input button for a minimum of 10 seconds.

After executing this process, your VIZIO Smart TV will automatically reboot and get into the Factory Reset mode.

Also, you can initiate and complete this Factory Reset process via your remote. Here’s how:

  • Step I: Click on the Menu button on your VIZIO Smart TV remote.
  • Step II: Next, click on the System option, which will appear on your VIZIO TV screen.
  • Step III: Next, navigate to the Reset & Admin section.
  • Step IV: Lastly, click on the Reset TVto Factory Defaults to complete the process.

6. Use a Polarized Power Cord

Use a Polarized Power Cord

A polarized power cord means that the electrical system has neutral and hot wirings. It simply signifies that there are both hot and neutral wires and then there is the directional flow via which the current flows in your device.

Polarized outlets and plugs with 110V circuits are primarily used as a safety feature, ensuring the complete circle of electricity in a particular circuit.

Hence, using a polarized cord and thinking that your VIZIO TV won’t power on is close to impossible. I applied this technique for our VIZIO Smart TV, swapped the non-polarized cord out of the box, and replaced it with a polarized one.

You can get a polarized cord at an IT center, or you might find it at your nearby hardware or electronics shop as well. It is readily available at a reasonable price, and plugging it with a TV cord doesn’t comprise any other technique.

One popular polarized cord that I can suggest is the Pwr Extra Long 12 Ft 2 Prong model. Use it to run your VIZIO TV smoothly.
